The kitchen cabinet can give you the biggest visual impact. In addition, they can provide the added storage and organization needed in the kitchen. If you feel your kitchen is in need of an update, try these hacks. They can be incorporated in no time and on almost any budget.

Updating your kitchen cabinet is usually one of the most expensive projects in a kitchen remodel or update. However, depending on the condition of your cabinets, it doesn’t have to be. If your cabinets are in pretty good shape, changing the door pulls can make a world of difference.  Not to mention, they are available in such a large variety. Note: Be sure to measure the holes to ensure you purchase the correct size. Cabinet pulls must match the size (length) of the drill holes in the existing doors and drawers.

You can purchase kitchen cabinet pulls at your local hardware stores. But if you want to view a larger variety, search the internet for cabinet pulls. As a matter of fact, your local craft or hobby stores also carry them. They offer a wider variety of hobbies or jeweled looks in addition to the standard pulls.

If you have the standard kitchen cabinet door, you can also update them by adding simple crown molding. For added visual depth, add more picture molding to the center. For a more decorative look, add a wood applique to the center of the picture molding. In addition, the color can be easily changed using burnished, a stain color that fits your color scheme.

Most of us, no matter size or style of our kitchen, can always use extra storage space.  Kitchens have not changed much over the years, therefore the kitchen cabinet size has remained standard. The exception would be custom cabinets which are built to accommodate storage needs. One key to solving the storage problem is pullout storage units. These units are easy to add and affordable, as they also come in a variety of styles and materials.

Under counter, pull outs are perfect for storing pots and lids. There are also varieties that work well with large kitchen appliances, dishes, and spices. One of my favorite organizers is the integrated pull-down shelf. It is a lowering/lifting mechanism that locks into place and allows you to take advantage of higher cabinets. The other is the toe kick drawers and toe kick step stools housed at the very bottom of your cabinets.

Under kitchen cabinet lighting adds depth and style to your kitchen cabinets and countertops. They eliminate shadows produced by cabinets and ceiling lights and are energy efficient. Because there are so many different options to choose from, you are able to select the style that is right for your kitchen and budget.

Strip lights are rectangular fixtures and work well with fluorescent bulbs, they are great for providing diffused lighting. Puck lights are round fixtures that look much like hockey pucks. They work with LED, halogen and xenon bulbs. Puck lights can also be mounted inside the kitchen cabinet to highlight dishes or glassware.

Linear lights are the most popular type of lighting because they are thin and easy to conceal behind cabinet trims in addition to working well with fluorescent lights.

Consult a specialist in your local home improvement store to find out what type installation is best for you. If you are a die-hard DIYer checkout blog.pegasuslighting.com for a complete Start to Finish Guide on how to measure for and install under cabinet lighting.
